The Qur'an and Europe?

Workshop - The European Qurʾān

workshop
90 min
€ 9 (valid museum ticket required)

The Qur'an played a key role in the emergence and creation of the European self-image. In Europe, numerous testimonies from the period between the 8th century and today reflect a common coexistence. The Holy Scriptures of the Muslims left deep traces in a changing Europe. The Koran was both the subject of polemics and a source of poetic inspiration.

How does the Qur'an serve as a bridge between cultures and eras? The workshop The Qur'an and Europe? invites you to explore and reflect on different perspectives on the Koran. The workshop will examine translations, prints and interpretations of the Qur'an. Another topic is the significance of the Qur'an in art and architecture. This aspect, especially calligraphy as an art of writing, will be at the centre of the creative part of the workshop.
