SpaceMosque

We cordially invite everyone to the opening of the exhibition SpaceMosque by Saks Afridi at the Theseustempel. From 20 April to 8 October 2023, the Theseus Temple in Vienna’s Volksgarten is all about our wishes and hopes. Here, the Pakistani-American artist takes up the question: What would happen if all our prayers came true? What do we direct our wishes towards? Afridi tells a speculative story from the recent past: when a spaceship appears in the sky, which people see in the form of a mosque, a synagogue, or a temple depending on their faith, all prayers begin to come true.

Saks Afridi was born in Peshawar and lives in New York. He describes his work as “sci-fi Sufism” in which he fuses storytelling with Islamic mysticism.
