The annual Brazilian Cultural Festival in 2024 will focus on indigenous culture. The 12th Brazilian Cultural Festival Vienna is organised by the Austrian-Brazilian educational and cultural association PAPAGAIO in cooperation with the Weltmuseum Wien, which is showing the exhibition (Un)Known Artists of the Amazon until April 2025.

Duration: 10.30 am – 5 pm
Participation: free
No registration. We ask for your understanding that the number of people in the Weltmuseum Wien Forum is limited for security reasons.

The films will be shown in the original version (Portuguese, indigenous languages) with English subtitles.

AGUYJEVETE AVAXI'I – Kerexu Martim, 21 min.
The documentary film sheds light on the revival of the cultivation of traditional maize varieties by the Guarani M'bya people in the indigenous village of Kalipety, where the land has dried up due to decades of eucalyptus monocultures.

A FEBRE DA MATA (2022) – Takumã Kuikuro, 10 min.
The fever of the forest
The shaman and his family go fishing. During the fishing trip, a jaguar approaches and begins to make frightened noises. The shaman immediately returns to his village and warns his people of the approaching danger.

LEVANTE PELA TERRA (2022) – Marcelo Costa Cuhexê Krahô, 30 min.
Standing up for the land
The documentary was shot during the ‘Levante Pela Terra’ action camp in Brasília in June 2021. Indigenous leaders from all regions of Brazil gathered in the federal capital to protest against the PL490 bill, which has a negative impact on the demarcation of indigenous reserves.
