Mending Holes in Trousers with the Sewing Machine

Workshop by the Kunst VHS – Who’s Wearing the Pants?

workshop
120 min
Participation: € 85 / € 73 (Ticket / Booking via VHS Kunst)

In this workshop, you will develop your own personal freedom pants. By addressing the question of how much freedom of movement you want in your everyday life, we will work together to develop a concept for redesigning your (favourite) jeans. Your old trousers, which may already have weak points here and there, will be repaired and sewn into freedom pants. In this way, sustainability, body awareness and personal interests are interwoven in the design process.

Course instructor: Simone Hintermayer-Scholz studied Textile – Free, Applied and Experimental Artistic Design at the University of Applied Arts and is a master dressmaker.

After the workshop, there will be an opportunity to visit the exhibition Who’s Wearing the Pants? accompanied by a cultural mediator from the museum. Whether precisely pressed or in a casual baggy look – they are a global phenomenon and seemingly familiar to us all. They are a symbol of cultural and social identity and the material for fashion statements: trousers.

From 25 March 2025, the Weltmuseum Wien will be taking a journey through 3,000 years of trouser history from all over the world in its new special exhibition Who’s Wearing the Pants? Treasures and many a quirky find from all the collections of the Weltmuseum Wien, the Theatermuseum, the Kunsthistorisches Museum Wien and objects on loan from Austrian museums and international collections will be on display.

In cooperation with the Wiener Kunst Volkshochschule, selected courses will be held on the premises of the Weltmuseum Wien. You can find the entire Kunst VHS programme here: Programme Kunst VHS
