4.30 pmDeep Dive Thursday: Provenance Research Day
presentation of the research project “Travel & Collections” (in German)
Museums’ collections in Europe profited from colonial aspirations of major European powers and the expansion of colonial structures. The presentation of “collected” objects cemented colonial or racist ideologies and world views in research and society. The collections of the Weltmuseum Wien are no exception in this respect. The provenance research project “Travel & Collections” is currently investigating the circumstances under which the collections of the ship Aurora of the Austrian-Hungarian Imperial and Royal Navy came into the museum. During the guided tour, different acquisition methods and problems will be discussed on the basis of several examples.
Swenja Jurisch and Dominik Spörker will present their research results and the project in the context of the International Provenance Research Day.
