Museums in Europe profited from the colonial ambitions of European superpowers and the expansion of colonial structures when collecting. The exhibition of collected objects consolidated colonial or racist ideologies and world views in research and society. The collections in the Weltmuseum Wien are no exception in this respect. The provenance research project S.M. Corvette Saida. Collections in the Weltmuseum Wien investigates the circumstances under which the collections of the ship "Saida" of the k.(u.)k. War Navy came to the museum. During the tour, a number of examples will be used to illustrate different types of acquisition and problems.

Our Deep Dive format offers exactly what the name promises: deep insights into the working world of the Weltmuseum Wien, from the conservation department to our curatorial staff. This series also includes talks with artists, scientists, and personalities from various fields of knowledge on selected objects and topics. Our aim is to use the Weltmuseum Wien as a lively place of exchange and to confront the socio-political discourses and challenges that open up new perspectives on an extraordinary collection.
