Dance Rehearsal ‘Por el Camino de las Ánimas – The Way of the Souls’

The Day of the Dead – Día de Muertos – is celebrated in Mexico with large processions in which masked dancers parade through the streets and the deceased are remembered in an boisterous mood. We want to celebrate this day at the Weltmuseum Wien, and you can join the performance!

Hena Moreno Corzo & Ameyalli will study with you a choreography for the performance ‘Por el Camino de las Ánimas – The Way of the Souls’ taking place on October 31st at 6 pm. during two free workshops (on Oct. 24 & on Oct. 31 - participation in both dates required!).

In the workshop, a choreography will be developed with the dance group Ameyalli, the basics of mask making will be explained to bring to life the wonderful skull masks created by Mexican artist Stephany Rodríguez Cabañas, and the use of the mojigangas, the giant puppets that participate in the fiesta, will be tried out.

The workshop is suitable for all people from 12 years old. We recommend comfortable clothes and shoes.

Ensayo general con quienes participaron en la primera session

Martes 24 de octubre. De 15 a 17 horas

Taller de Manejo de Máscaras y Mojigangas con Hena Moreno Corzo y el Taller de Teatro del Instituto Cultural de México en Viena (ICM) y Coreografía con Martha Martínez y Ameyalli en el Forum (ensayo)

En esta sesión nos dedicaremos a los principios básicos del manejo de máscaras, con el objetivo de dar vida a las maravillosas máscaras de cráneo de la artista mexicana Stephany Rodríguez Cabañas. También del uso de las Mojigangas, que son los enormes muñecos, que participan en la fiesta.

Martha Martínez y el Grupo Ameyalli trabajarán la coreografía.
