In honor of the 200th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Austria and Brazil, the Weltmuseum Wien and the Brazilian Embassy in Vienna are delighted to host a special event featuring distinguished speakers who will explore the past, present, and future of this enduring relationship.
The event will feature brief lectures by Gloria Kaiser, José Angelo Estrella Faria, and Günter Fuhrmann, each offering unique perspectives on the historical, cultural, and legal ties that have shaped the bond between these two nations. The discussion will be moderated by Claudia Augustat.
Gloria Kaiser, an accomplished author and teacher based in Graz, Austria, has a deep connection to Brazil, having lived in Salvador. She is a corresponding member of the Academy of Letters of Bahia and the Geographical and Historical Institute of Bahia. Ms. Kaiser is celebrated for her historical novels and literary biographies, including “Dona Leopoldina, a Habsburg on the Brazilian Throne”, “Pedro II do Brasil”, and “Anita Garibaldi”, which have been translated into multiple languages.
José Angelo Estrella Faria, a Brazilian lawyer and former senior official at the United Nations, brings a legal and international perspective to the discussion. Until November 2024, he served as Principal Legal Officer and Head of the Legislative Branch at the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) in Vienna. Previously, he was Secretary-General of the International Institute for the Unification of Private Law (UNIDROIT) in Rome. Mr. Faria has extensive experience in legal harmonization, commercial law, and international law, and has taught at prestigious institutions worldwide, including the University of Vienna and the Hague Academy of International Law.
Günter Fuhrmann studied law at the University of Vienna and cultural management at the Vienna University of Music and Performing Arts. He has worked in museum management since 2001 and has been an independent exhibition curator since 2013. Expert on the House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha and its relation with the Brazilian imperial family.
