On this special evening, the band ‘Caldo de cana’ presents a musical project that brings the true essence of forró to light with a unique formation of violin, flute, tambourine and zabumba. Inspired by the traditional pífano bands of the north-east, our musicians create a sound that mixes traditional rhythms with innovative accents, offering an authentic and complete experience.

The gentle violin is in dialogue with the flute, reminiscent of the lightness of the north-eastern breeze, while the percussion with tambourines and bass drums creates the strong beat that makes the heart beat faster. And before you enjoy the concert, we invite you to a dance lesson with the teacher Valéria Queiroz, which is all about the infectious rhythms of the Forró! Come and learn the steps and feel the rhythm to prepare yourself for a show full of joy and a celebration of north-eastern culture. Don't miss the opportunity to experience Forró in its entirety: Dance, music and tradition in a single event!

Valéria Queiroz is a Brazilian dancer and teacher who began her dance journey in 2005, mastering various social and Latin styles such as Samba Gafieira, Forró, Bolero and Salsa. She has been teaching these styles and working with a Brazilian dance group since 2008. In Europe, she concentrates on Forró, leads workshops and places particular emphasis on active dancing, improvisation and musicality. With her combination of dance and language teaching skills, Valéria founded the project Portuguese with Forró (@portuguesewithforro), which teaches Portuguese through Forró music and culture and helps non-Portuguese-speaking dancers to connect more deeply with the tradition.

Pequeno Melo, a percussionist from Garanhuns, Pernambuco, grew up in a family of musicians and has built a 26-year career deeply rooted in the musical traditions of north-east Brazil. Over the years, he has taken part in numerous CD and DVD productions and toured extensively in Europe. With his band Xero no Cangote, Melo has performed at over 50 festivals in more than 20 countries, including Austria, Germany, Portugal and Spain. Over the course of his career, he has shared the stage with renowned national and international artists such as Dominguinhos, Elba Ramalho, Lenine, Cesária Évora and João Bosco.

He plays in several groups, including Banda Caburé (Brazilian music), The Belgian Blue and The Lash (Irish music) and the Frau Mayer Duo (Schrammelnmusik). As a violinist of popular Brazilian music, he has also worked with renowned artists such as João Bosco and Yamandu Costa. His versatility as a musician allows him to combine different musical styles and reach a wide audience. He was previously a member of the renowned Jovem Orquestra do Estado de São Paulo, with whom he toured Brazil and Europe. During his career, Michael Alves has performed on some of the world's most prestigious stages. His outstanding performances include concerts at the Festival Berlioz in France, the Berlin Konzerthaus, Alice Tully Hall in New York and the Kennedy Center in Washington. These experiences have broadened his artistic horizons and earned him international recognition as a violinist.

Ricardo Vendramin Ross is a Brazilian composer, flutist and multi-instrumentalist. After completing his bachelor's degree in composition and conducting, he focussed on the flute and played in professional orchestras. He moved to Vienna in 2021, completed postgraduate studies at the Friedrich Gulda School of Music in 2023 and began a master's degree in composition at the MUK.
