Guru Rinpoche

Standort

Currently not displayed.

The head, which most likely comes from a statue, refers to Guru Rinpoche's descent from a royal house in Udyana, today's Swat Valley in north-western Pakistan, with its strikingly cut facial features. This region was already Buddhist from the second century BC and is considered the area of origin of Vajrayana Buddhism, which is practiced in Tibet and the Himalayan region.
